Tired

Tired of chasing after the lost
Tired of chasing pretty rainbows
Tired of self expectations
Tired of hoping for the best
Just Tired, Tired, Tired

Tired of being patient
Tired of being harassed
Tired of feeling rejected
Tired of feeling like a loser
Just Tired, Tired, Tired

When will this all end?
When will I truly live?
When will I see myself where I should be?
Other than feeling and being tired

The Thorns

As it states in the parable of the sower, I’ve pondered a little further on the area where the seeds fell among the thorns.

The thorns depicts the anxiety, worries, cares, riches and pleasures of life. The seeds that fell among the thorns did take root and grow to a certain extent. Unlike the ones that fell by the way side or on the rocky ground, we know that these seeds did burst into life. young saplings. However, it could grow only for a certain time.

I suppose there are only 02 ways that such a plant could survive.

  1. The plant has to be strong enough to outgrow the thorns.
  2. The thorns should be removed by an external force.

I’d start with the latter, where it would be the easiest thing to do. Somehow the thorns should be removed or at least trimmed off by an external source. This would assist the plant to outgrow the thorns to a certain extent. Depending on the type of plant which would grow into a tree the thorns will become insignificant over time.

Looking at the first option, I find it hard to see how this could happen. The plant would require adequate personal space to grow, expand its branches etc. I’d like think that the thorns could be a blessing for a while where it may protect the sapling of strong winds and extreme weather. But then again, the thorns may prick and damage the young plant contributing to its slow death.

Looking at the options available by my limited human thinking capacity, I am led to believe this;

That if an external source does not contribute towards destroying the thorns or uprooting the plant from its current context and replanting the sapling, it would seem impossible for the young plant to survive among the thorns – ultimately leading it to death.

The Pumpkin Issue

The country I come from has an ancient rich heritage of Agriculture. The ancient kings of Sri Lanka leaves enough evidence for us to know how much effort was put into agriculture with its irrigation methods.

But with centuries gone by, little do we see that has been done to take agriculture to the next level. Technology has advanced but not the Agriculture industry in Sri Lanka. Hence, the Pumpkin issue!

Recently many governmental and non-governmental departments came together to promote sales and to relieve the pumpkin farmers of their excess produce. Approximately 100,000Kg with the price tag of a
a measly Rs. 100/-. per pumpkin at a pumpkin street sale.
It is a good endeavor !

However, has no one thought of tackling this pumpkin issue in a more proactive manner. it is not just pumpkin farmers that face these issues. Take a walk in the hill country of Sri Lanka and you will see that many farmers just let carrots, beets, leeks, cabbages, raddish to rot in their fields as they could not sell it for a decent price and the middle man always has the upper hand with pricing. What a waste!

Recently, a minister states that eating pumpkin enhances the beauty of women. Seriously, is this how one we tackle agriculture related issues in Sri Lanka?

How come these pumpkin farmers are not able to sell their crop for a decent pay? Is it not worth their toil and labor? How come their general quality of life has not developed? Why are there no services to educate the general public about by- products of the pumpkin nor its value additions.

Pumpkins are such a good and healthy source for our diet in many ways. It could be preserved, made into soup, could be used as pureed pumpkin and a thickening agent for various dishes. Then there is pumpkin as desserts and could easily be used as a form of a sweetened drink. Think about the pumpkin seeds.

May be some folks are already making some business out of what I’ve mentioned above. But why are the farmers not educated and equipped on these? Is it because we have become a lazy generation, wanting the quickest of the solutions to such problems and the instant solutions for everything.

There are countries which would die for pumpkins and here we have it go it waste. What a shame!

I seriously hope that the people at the top who have the authority, power and access to funding would seriously save this country from the pathetic agricultural frail and look in to more sustainable farming and agri bio technology methodologies to tackle issues in a non-reactive manner. We need to close the disparity gap and elevate the life of the general farmer. After all they bring us some food to our table!

Stable

Since of late she gets a pounding from him with this word “stable”

She wipes her tears asking why he thinks she is “unstable”

He says “You are not stable. I need you to be stable.Unwavering”

“How can you say that I am wavering? especially when I am the stable one right now” she thinks to herself.

But she never utters a word. One day he would realize that she was the only stable thing in his life!

Book Review : Meltdown

I enjoy reading all kinds and types of books from history to science fiction to fantasy, even documentary types. The Authors I enjoy vary from Stephen King, Arthur C. Clarke, Ben Elton to John Grisham.

Meltdown by Ben Elton really is a great read. It is a page turner with lots of humour, wit and ofcourse realtity.

I just finished reading it a few weeks ago and found it to be very timely, entertaining and obviously an eye opener. Going through a slightly similar situation faced by lead role Jimmy, about his unwise financial choices made such a big impact on the general wellbieng of himself and mostly his family of wife and 03 children.

The book is a great read  for those who want to relax end of the day with a good read with lots of serious and practical stuff in it. Seriously, you must give it a try as it was very entertaining and enjoyable to to core. I love the fact that it is sometimes subtle and otherwise very direct with plenty of sarcasm, the practical life of a married man with kids and a wife and all that jazz following his misfortunes. The sense of creativity that goes on his mind and his wife’s along with the ‘circle of friends’ that he grew up with.
It is hillarious at some points and some places I did have a tear or two.

So with all the ecnonomic crunch that most of us are experiencing, this is a great read to start of your 2019! Happy Reading!

Think or Feel

So you think I what is feel is what I think

How silly of you to come to a conclusion as this

You ought to know by now more about me

My experiences are more of what I feel than think

Next time you make your silly jokes about

Things that matter to me and close to my heart

Ask yourself more than once if you have to

If what you think and say would make me feel any better

You may not have dreams but I happen to do so!

Modern Slaves

Be it a trafficked migrant, a child labours, a housewife with an abusive husband, adult children who steal their parent’s pension, a wife whose hardworking employee who gets nothing of what she earns or vise versa.. I see modern slaves everywhere.

Slavery know no shapes sizes and forms; it is irrespective of age, gender, nationality, geography.

According to the Antislavery International

There are estimated 40.3 million people in modern slavery around the world.

  • 10 million children
  • 24.9 million people in forced labour
  • 15.4 million people in forced marriage
  • 4.8 million people in forced sexual exploitation

40.3 million is a lot of people and slavery at this day and age is a bigger deal than it was back in the day.

You’d expect humans to have advanced with technology and education but modern slavery has a subtle way in making itself known.

Forced to work, restrictions on freedom of movement, treated as commodity, abuse are a few terms in which you could describe the cruel circumstances of these victims. Some have been born into slavery, others with or without choice, due to negligence or even choice to merely survive.

I wonder how many of these modern slaves actually have the courage to live through their slavery as opposed to taking thier lives and ending the pain. It is a sad, grave situation I cannot even fathom.

There is so much talk about migration issues around the world with the super powers not wanting to address these issues in a humane way. After all they are protecting their borders. But the super powers are there not to just dominate the world in being rich and powerful, they are also accountable to bring in solutions to issues such as modern slavery to countries which are less developed, less privileged and deprived of resources and skills to tackle such a crucial issue.

There is no true freedom in this world. A citizenship of a country is almost a birthright to many. But how many out there wish they had the citizenship of a more developed country where they have resources and opportunities to grow, live and fulfill at least some of their dreams. It’s an unfair state!

And if you are a slave in the land you live in there is no getting out!No where to go!
We are all humans who deserve a good life with true freedom!

Secret Agent

Is it normal that as you age you want to be very secretive about the things you do? Even be secretive to your ownself so much so that at times you discover things about yourself that you did not know of?

I wonder if this is just a phase in life which we go through as humans a process of aging or I wonder if it is just to do with me. The latter I hope not, because sometimes some discoveries about self are scary.

At times you feel like a secret agent; holding on to so many secrets of others all carefully locked up inside of you like some magnificent treasure chest tucked deep in the ocean bed never to be found.

At times you are a secret agent that goes undecover just to help a friend in need with some crucial  problems in thier lives. This can be self destructive at times depending on the act of selfless love and the distance you would go for your friend.

At other times you are a secret agent to your ownself, just not knowing so many things about yourself. This can be frustrating if you had spent a considerable time in your day to day life growing up making a conscious effort to know yourself – Only to discover that there is so much that you did not actually know of yourself.

Had you already known these traits of yourself- you could have stayed out of trouble without a doubt!

If this makes any sense to you, please leave your comment. I’d really appreciate it.

Take me as I am

Inspired by Wyclef and Sharissa’s song  Take me as I am

In a world filled with promises so vast than the ocean

Dreams, ambitions and hopes as wide as the horizon

Lies, truth intermingled together sometimes grey

Who would really take you as you are?

Most often with so many things going on in our lives

We crave for love, not the emotion but the person love

You’d expect someone out there to just take you as you are

Despite your flaws mistakes complications and messes

We all need someone to take us as we are!

“If I” Vs “I will”

There have been many instances where I have used the word “if” when speaking of lifes moments and regrets. Everyone has regrets in life. That’s what makes human is it not?

So I have decided that I would not use ‘if’ anymore and instead use ‘ I will’

I will learn to swim – yes to many this may be a way of life, but call me crazy being an islander I could not still tread deep waters for too long.

I will write my book –  this has been a deep passion in my heart wanting to tell my story to the world, a form of a testament to my existence. I haven’t yet decided whether I should combine fiction into it

I will fly in to Space – my childhood dream of being an astronaut, a distant dream as I grow older and realize I need to be an American to join NASA!

I will open up the little cafe / studio –  I fancied myself being a waitress (sounds silly to many) but what I find it comforting, almost soul food to be able to serve someone breakfast and coffee and just say good morning and how are you?

I will own those plots of land wherever my heart desires to have small getaways for friends and strangers alike –  where they would find rest and inspiration. A place of serenity.

I will!

Less Talk

A friend of mine was sharing a story about how her life has become a very quiet one. She is a girl I’ve known to be all bubbly, upbeat and adventerous. She no longer seems to have any of those traits – It’s sad and at times I see her as a stranger I never met before!

She told me how she her life is less talk and more tears. I wondered if she was stepping into a form of depression. Well, she is not! At least not reached that place yet. And I for one, surely will try my best to not allow her to get any close to depression of any form.

She tells me of how her life has become somewhat boring –  the mundane things in life causing her to have the blues. She wants to get out more and socialize and be the social butterfly she used to be. But, something she is not telling me tells me that at this point in her life, after marriage she has succumbed to somewhat of the feeling of not having the actual freedom she used to have to be herself.

I tried to question her state of mind more deeply and found out that she wants to be happy, adventerous and bubbly, but her spouse has drawn upon her such sadness and quietness- too much of this quietness is killing her adverterous bubbly spirit.

For sure, she is not the type who has few words and neither thinks too long before she speaks; she is more of the spontaneous chatterbox who just speaks her minds, not caring too much of what others have to say.

So, is it possible that in a marraige where the spouse is a quiet lonely character could actually influence the other and imprint thier emotional traits making the other into something that they are not? This certainly baffles me !

If you are reading this, I would very much appreciate to know your thoughts on same!
